Max Verstappen Collect Singapore Pole, Win Wet Sprint As Russell Crash

Max Verstappen don grab pole position for Singapore Grand Prix, and e also win the wet Sprint race for Marina Bay Street Circuit. The Dutchman take his second pole of the weekend, and na him 50th Grand Prix pole, but first one for Singapore on him 10th visit.

For qualifying, Lewis Hamilton bin look like favourite after him top Q1 and Q2 for Ferrari. But Verstappen, wey win the earlier rain-hit Sprint, seize control for Q3 first runs. Hamilton provisional second after first laps, but e no fit improve on second attempt. Charles Leclerc then push am to third, as Leclerc take second on grid. Verstappen opening lap 1:31.373 remain unbeaten, with final pole advantage over Leclerc na 0.054s.

Hamilton talk say Q1 and Q2 bin awesome, but for Q3 e snap into Turn One and Turn Three and lose two tenths. E say the car get fine line between over edge and under limit, and finding sweet spot hard. Kimi Antonelli qualify fourth for Mercedes. George Russell qualify sixth but e drop to back of Sunday grid due to engine-change penalty. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri take fifth and seventh, and Russell penalty mean they start together on third row. Isack Hadjar no set lap time because gearbox issues for Q1, so e join Russell for back.

For Sprint, rain soak first and third sectors before start, and race start delay. All drivers run intermediate tyres. Russell charge past polesitter Verstappen for slippery conditions, but e crash at final corner of first lap. Verstappen move back into lead after restart and never look back.

Lewis Hamilton lead Ferrari charge, turn sixth to third, then second when Russell crash. Leclerc follow, with McLaren team mates Piastri and Norris behind. Leclerc report say him intermediate tyres heavily worn as track dry. Norris tag Piastri for Turn Five as their lines converge, both spin. Antonelli take advantage to finish fourth. Lawson, Bearman and Hulkenberg also benefit. Norris slip to eighth, Piastri stop outright and classify 14th. Verstappen say start horrendous again and team need improve, but e happy to win Sprint, though e want win tomorrow not today.

For the main Singapore Grand Prix, Verstappen dey lead, with Lewis Hamilton second and Charles Leclerc third. Virtual safety car deploy after Lance Stroll park him car and climb out safely. Ferrari run into pit lane to change for Leclerc, but Hamilton stay out. Antonelli also pit for fresh rubber. Russell only just make it into pit lane for stop, Mercedes put am on soft tyres, and e head out in front of Oliver Bearman in 10th place.

Hamilton ask engineer about pace and strategy. Engineer tell am say, ‘We are on Plan B. We are getting close.’ Hamilton ask, ‘Can I not just hold it out?’ Engineer reply, ‘We are six laps too short to do Plan C.’ Verstappen 13 seconds clear of Hamilton, but Leclerc now faster Ferrari with fresher tyres. Leclerc go P2 after swap with Hamilton, and e dey 15 seconds off Verstappen. Hamilton stay out and back in final podium place. Antonelli complain on radio say him brake no dey and pedal was so long. Piastri make another pit trip for slow puncture, rejoin sixth, one place behind Antonelli in P5. Stroll bring out brief yellow flag but e get himself out of danger. Virtual safety car deployed.
