National Examinations Council, NECO, don yarn say di resilience and commitment of im workforce na wetin make exam no stop despite Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and sit-at-home orders.
Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, tok dis one on Wednesday for Minna at di council 2025 Annual Staff Productivity Award Ceremony.
He describe staff as di ‘army of NECO’, and talk say dia round di clock alertness and readiness to execute duties at any hour don sustain di council operations nationwide.
Wushishi tok say: ‘During di heydays of Boko Haram, di activities of Boko Haram have never stopped NECO examination. Banditry has never stopped NECO examination. Kidnapping has never stopped NECO examination. Sit-at-home order has never stopped NECO examination.’
He also yarn say timely updates from security agencies enable hitch-free movement of staff and smooth conduct of examinations nationwide, and he credit resilience of di workforce for uninterrupted conduct of exams despite security challenges, including Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and sit-at-home orders.
Di registrar explain say productivity awards dey instituted to motivate staff, improve service delivery, promote healthy competition and entrench culture of excellence.
He say di 2025 edition recognise hardworking staff from di Registrar office, departments, zonal directorates, 36 state offices, Liaison and LCT offices, outstanding state coordinators, drivers, 55 retirees and best-performing students.
Wushishi add say di awards underscore NECO belief say publicly acknowledging exemplary performance na key to enhancing quality and effectiveness of im services.
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba, wey also tok, talk say examination credibility no dey rest only on policies but on commitment, competence and integrity of implementers.
He urge NECO staff to be guided by fairness, transparency and accountability.
For di ceremony, NECO honour Cross River State Coordinator, Ruth Nnamani, as Best State Coordinator of di Year.
Award for best excellence performance go to Tabitha Kopdungha of Plateau State, Garba Sandy of Niger State and Rabiu Yakubu of Kaduna State.
Di council also present certificates of service to 55 staff retirees for 2025 in recognition of dia years of commitment and dedication.
Among those honoured na former Director of Registration, Hajara Ali; Director of South-South Zone, Irem Obiahu; Director of Test Development, Michael Okei; and Acting Director of South-East Zone, Samuel Adiniyi.
Awards also go to di six zonal directors, di FCT Liaison Office and coordinators of di council 36 state offices and Abuja.
For student categories, Akai Bernice Kuyet and Eke Felix Emenike of School Sense, Barnawa, Kaduna State, emerge female and male winners of di Senior School Certificate Examination award respectively.
Michael Daniela Chiamaka of Christland High School, Ikeja, Lagos, and Salihu Amir Umar of Kadwel International Schools, Kaduna, win di female and male categories of di Basic Education Certificate Examination.
For di National Gifted Examination, Ezeundu Samuel Akachukwu of God’s Wisdom International School, Anambra, win di male category, while Ubochi Akunnaya of Diamond Special Schools, Owerri, win di female category.
Alocha Naeto Daniel of Remmon Home Academy win di male category of di National Common Entrance, while Adenuga Monsurat Feyisara of Ar-Rahman Montessori School, Ojota, win di female category.
A total of 136 workers were rewarded for outstanding performance.
