The Federal Operations Unit Zone B Kaduna, in collaboration with the Red Cross, host the retreat to bring attention to the critical role wey young people play in addressing climate change. According to the organizers, involving youth in climate action no be just necessary, but it dey essential for building a sustainable future.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also support dis idea, saying that young people bring fresh ideas and innovative solutions to address the unique challenges posed by climate change. He mention dis during his visit to the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga, where he present a new booklet to encourage children to become disaster champions.
The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) also dey stress the importance of youth engagement in Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) to adapt and build resilience to climate change. WMO dey develop a comprehensive Youth Action Plan to enhance children’s understanding of climate change and equip them with the knowledge and skills to reduce risks and respond effectively to disasters.
In addition, initiatives like the CGIAR Initiative on Climate Resilience (ClimBeR) dey focus on transforming the climate adaptation capacity of food and agricultural systems, with a strong emphasis on involving local voices, including those of young people, in climate policy processes.
