Lagos lawmaker, Gbolahan Yishawu, wey dey represent Eti-Osa Constituency 02 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, don explain why the Ounje Eko food market dey suspended. Yishawu talk dis one during the 11th Eti-Osa Constituency 02 Town Hall Meeting wey hold on Friday for Lagos.
Yishawu say the Ounje Eko food market, wey be initiative of the state government to sell foodstuff to residents at reduced prices, dey abused by participants. He say people dey take advantage of the system, and the subsidy wey the government dey try to give to residents dey get hijacked.
The Ounje Eko Food Discount Market start for March and dey operate across the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos. The market dey sell food items like Rice, Beans, Garri, Bread, Eggs, Tomatoes, Pepper, Tatashe and Onions at 25% discount every Sunday.
But last week, the state government announce say dem go pause the programme, which dey in its second phase. Yishawu say the government dey plan to redesign the process before dem bring it back on board.
A teacher, Tunde Aremu, wey attend the meeting, express him dismay over the suspension. He say the initiative dey bring succour to residents because of the high cost of living. Aremu urge Lagosians to be constructive in their thinking and dealings so that the relief by the government can reach everyone.
