City, State/Country: Lagos, Nigeria
WAEC don knack wetin dem call technical wahala again! Dem shut down dia result checker portal on Wednesday evening, and e don cause major gbege among students and parents. This one no be say dem dey play like small pikin, na serious matter we dey talk here!
For wetin dem post on dia official X handle (@waecnigeria), dem talk say dem plan to resolve dis technical gaffe within 24 hours. But with all the palaver wey don happen, how many people go believe dem? Last time wey we check, results wey concern English Language just dey make everybody dey vex like say dem collect dem money for everywhere!
Na about 1.9 million candidates dey try gain access to dem results after dem finish to write the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) this year. Wetin people dey find? Simply put, 38.32% of dem fit get credit and above for five subjects wey include English and Math – maan, dat one na serious bad news, the worst in ten years! Na like this, dem go take deserving better results? Abeg, make una shine una eye.
Dem plenty students and parents wey don raise eyebrow, especially following the late conduct of English Paper wey hold for midnight on May 28. Some even turn am to gisting session online, dey show screenshot of results wey show better passes for other subjects but fail for English, dey demand clarity and full review. E be like say WAEC no dey take students matter seriously, and citizens don tire!
Check dis tweet from Mark Imohi – “How e go be say English wey dem run as late as 8pm dey cause mass failure. Even JAMB don make amends before, I hope WAEC go fit follow suit.” Other angry students don share same sentiment, talk say their results no fit match wetin dem dey expect after all the hustle wey dem put in.
One parent, wey tweet as @Johnway11145073, express am well: “My pikin get five A1 and two B2, but dem give am D7 for English. Make we talk about how this one make sense!” Even for family level, this one dey cause plenty wahala, as no be all parents fit get money for extra classes or private teachers.
Some people even dey call for full recall of the results because how English and Math wey be the bedrock for education fit give students D’s, E’s and even F8’s? @JayTrezy tweet am well: “WAEC dey play with our future; if we check them again, dem go run meet wahala.” Dem no get fear, abi?
The way wey WAEC dey run matter na wetin dey make people lose hope for education system shaa. As dem don announce say results go reopen soon, many candidates dey hope flat say dem fit see small changes. “When the portal open again, e go be like magic,” na wetin Daniel Ebitimi (@ebitimi_da15726) believe. Ogbonge faith, I go just dey watch this matter!
While e be say dem don introduce paper serialisation to curb malpractice, the implementation suppose no dey cause wahala for students’ results na, but the bumpy road wey many don travel during the exam dey raise serious red flags. We dey beg WAEC; make dem take am easy. If una no fit carry our students matter gently, na so dem go just start to dey protest for the street, and we no wan see that drama!
WAEC still never come talk any new updates regarding how dem wan handle the English Language grading, and citizens dey gather plenty demands for thorough review. As we dey receive dis news, we go dey keep our eyes open, because we still dey hope for better results at least for dem wey don hustle hard.
