No fewer than three people have been killed in a clash between rival cult groups in North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State. According to reports gathered by PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, the violent confrontation resulted in the loss of lives and caused significant unrest in the area.
The incident is part of a larger trend of cult-related violence that has plagued the state. Between January 2021 and September 2024, cult gang-related violence has resulted in over 310 fatalities in Benue State.
The clash in North Bank also led to the destruction of property, further exacerbating the already tense situation in the community. The authorities are yet to comment on the measures being taken to address the ongoing cult violence in the region.
