Thousands of students don dey plan lawsuit against JAMB over 2025 UTME wahala

ABUJA, Nigeria — Thousands of candidates who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) dey ready to sue the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) after dem raise issues about technical glitches and incomplete questions wey spoil their exams. Reports show say more than 1.5 million out of 1.9 million candidates score below 200 out of 400 marks.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, talk say the mass failure reflect JAMB efforts in fighting exam malpractice. But education advocate and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, don announce say dem go start legal action against JAMB for Federal High Court on Monday.

“As currently we don gather serious complaints from 8,391 students,” Onyia write for im page on X (formerly Twitter), @winexv. “We get plenty evidence wey show say JAMB system no efficient, and e don affect students’ mental health. We need JAMB to show us di mark sheets, make students fit verify wetin dem score,” he add.

The controversy come after JAMB release di 2025 UTME results last Friday. According to JAMB, over half of di candidates score below 200 points, sparking national concern. While Minister Alausa dey claim say di results show success in curbing malpractice, candidates and parents dey blame JAMB technology for di failures.

One candidate wey take di exam for CBT centre for Maitama, Abuja, share im experience: “For my Use of English, I notice say some of my questions dey missing. I raise alarm, and I no be di only one wey get di issue. My result show say I score 170, and JAMB no don talk anything about di missing questions.” Anoda candidate talk say she shocked when she see her result. “Last year I score 287, but this year I get 173. Many others wey write that day complain say dem English questions dey incomplete. Dis result no be mine.”

A parent dey call for review too, she say: “We dey demand for remark from JAMB. These na exceptional students wey dey score below 200. Plenty people don complain about incomplete questions and JAMB no don talk anything. This wahala no fit just go away.”

As of now, JAMB never reply to di specific complaints wey di candidates don raise. Efforts to reach JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, for comments no successful at di time wey this report dey filed.
