The Penguin, na new American crime drama television miniseries wey dey air on HBO, don dey make waves since its premiere on September 19, 2024. Developed by Lauren LeFranc, dis series be spin-off from the 2022 film The Batman, and it focus on the rise to power of Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
Colin Farrell, who played the Penguin in The Batman, reprise his role in dis series, bringing to life the complex and troubled character of Ozwald Cobblepot. The show explore his relationship with his mentally ill mother and his ascent in the criminal world, particularly his rivalry with Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti.
The series, which is set to run for eight episodes until November 10, 2024, has received mixed reviews. Some critics praise Colin Farrell’s performance and the show’s dark, gripping narrative, while others find it tedious and overly long. For example, Variety’s Aramide Tinubu hailed it as “twisted, disturbing and deeply enthralling,” while The Daily Telegraph’s Ed Power noted that it is a “grim psychodrama” but criticized its pacing.
In the latest episode, “Cent’Anni,” Sofia Falcone’s origin story takes center stage, showing her transformation into a formidable figure in the Falcone family’s criminal operations. Her experiences in Arkham Asylum and her betrayal by Ozwald Cobblepot are pivotal moments in her character development, making her a compelling and complex character.
The show is produced by DC Studios in association with Warner Bros. Television and Matt Reeves’ production company, 6th & Idaho. It marks the first television series within The Batman universe and is part of the new DC Studios projects under James Gunn and Peter Safran.
