Tension dey Rivers as Fubara Insist on LG Polls

Tension don dey rise for Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara insist say local government elections go hold despite stiff opposition from different quarters. Fubara make dis statement during a press conference at Government House, Port Harcourt, where he accuse de Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and de entire Nigeria Police Force of serving de interest of an Abuja-based politician to scuttle de LG elections.

De situation worsen after police withdraw from de election process, citing a Federal High Court order. Fubara warn say if any breakdown of law and order happen, de police chiefs, including de state and headquarters in Abuja, should be held responsible. He also foiled an attempt by police to cart away sensitive election materials from de Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Fubara’s supporters occupy de entrance of RSIEC, insisting that elections will hold across all local government areas of de state. De governor also express frustration over what he sees as interference from Abuja, alluding to former Governor Nyesom Wike’s influence. He said, “We don’t need your security, we’ll provide our own security,” and warned de IGP that “your history will include shooting Fubara” if de police try to stop de election.

De Nigeria Police Force, through their spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, respond by saying dey are a law-abiding institution and will adhere to de court order. Dey also advise Fubara to be cautious and apply decency while pursuing his political goals, condemning his use of unprintable names against de IGP.

Rivers elders and different groups have expressed divergent views on de matter, with some backing de polls and others opposing dem. De situation remains tense as de state prepares for de local government elections.
