In October 2022, Mrs Buhari apologised to Nigerians for Mr Buhari’s misdeeds as the president of Africa’s most populous black nation.
First lady Aisha Buhari has amplified Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s claim that President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabal is plotting the failure of the APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu in the February 25 election.
Mr El-Rufai, in an interview with Channels TV Wednesday morning, accused the cabal of working to sabotage Mr Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Hours after Mr El-Rufai’s claim, Mrs Buhari, grand patron of the Tinubu/Shettima women campaign group, took to her Instagram to share a video of Mr El-Rufai’s statement, amplifying the anti-Tinubu cabal claim.
In a cryptic message in 2017, when Mr Buhari was sick and spent three months in a London hospital for an undisclosed ailment, Mrs Buhari described the cabal in her husband’s regime as “hyenas and jackals.”

Despite Nigeria’s federal government on Wednesday denouncing insinuations by Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, that some fifth columnists in the State House, Abuja, were working to frustrate the victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, First Lady Aisha Buhari seems to have endorsed El-Rufai’s comments.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, while reacting to the allegation after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari held at Abuja, said the government was unaware of anyone within the presidential villa working against any candidate in next month’s presidential poll.
El-Rufai had earlier during an interview on Channels television, blamed some of the government policies including the naira redesign and persistent fuel scarcity in the country on those he termed fifth columnists, saying the naira redesign and persistent fuel scarcity may cause unrest in the country. He alleged that the naira redesign project was the idea of few people in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, adding that it was never the policy of the ruling APC.
However, Mrs. Buhari, on Wednesday shared the video clip of El-Rufai’s comments on her Instagram page, implicitly endorsing the statement by the governor.
Aisha is the grand patron of the Tinubu/Shettima women campaign team and she has been actively campaigning for the party’s presidential candidate.
In reaction, to El-Rufai Mohammed said: “On a more serious note, one thing I can assure you is that no matter who, this administration is focused and determined to ensure a free and fair election and I think in this administration, the most important person is Mr. President and I think he has shown by words and by deeds that he’s committed to a free, fair and credible election.
“Fair, free and credible election actually means not favouring anybody or disadvantaging anybody and everywhere he goes, he makes that very clear, even as recently as Friday, when he was in Daura, he said the same thing.
“So, if there’s anybody who’s working against any candidate, we don’t know officially”, he explained.
Earlier, El-Rufai had alleged that some elements in the Aso Rock were working against the victory of the APC and Tinubu in the forthcoming election.
The governor argued that “those elements” had their candidate in the presidential primary election, but he didn’t win the primary.
He said against this background, they were working against the ruling party and Tinubu.
The governor said the persons in the presidency were hiding behind the president’s desire to do what was right to scuttle the party’s chances.
El-Rufai, however, pointed out that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele was not to blame for redesigning the naira.
The former FCT minister recalled that the president did same as a Military Head of State with the aim of getting those that had stashed illicit funds.
The governor said while the president has his right to redesign the currency, doing it at this time did not make any political or economic sense.
El-Rufai explained: “I believe there are elements in the villa that want us to lose the election because they didn’t get their way; they had their candidate. Their candidate did not win the primary election.
“They are trying to get us to lose the election, and they are hiding behind the president’s desire to do what he thinks is right.
“I will give two examples: This petroleum subsidy, which is costing the country trillions of naira, was something that we all agreed would be removed.
“In fact, I had a discussion with the president and showed him why it had to go. Because how can you have a capital budget of N200 billion for federal roads and then spend N2 trillion on petroleum subsidy?
‘This was a conversation I had with the president in 2021 when the subsidy thing started rising. He was convinced. We left. It changed. Everyone in the government agreed, and it changed.
“The second example I will give is this currency redesign. You have to understand the president. People are blaming the Governor of the CBN, but no. You have to go back and look at the first outing of Buhari as president. He did this; the Buhari-Idiagbon regime changed our currency and did it in secrecy with a view to catching those that were stashing away illicit funds.
“It is a very good intention. The president has his right. But doing it at this time within the allotted time does not make any political or economic sense.”
The presidential candidate of the APC during a rally of the party in Abeokuta, had alleged that the decision to redesign the naira and the fuel scarcity were all meant to scuttle his victory at the poll.
Though the presidency then refused to react to Tinubu’s attack against the Buhari’s government, the APC presidential campaign had in a statement insisted that Tinubu did not mention, blame or accuse Buhari for the current challenges in the country.
However, on Tuesday in Calabar, Tinubu once more attacked the Buhari-led government, saying it met the exchange rate at N200/$ dollar and because of their poor management of the economy, the nation’s currency has depreciated to about N800/$1.

The world is in mourning for the passing of the 'Black King'.
I can't help but add my humble voice to the outpouring of tributes.
My friend Idy calls me this morning from the United States.
She wants to know if the flags will fly at half mast in Nigeria today in grim recognition of the passing of a great black man whose place in black history is in the category of Muhammed Ali, Nelson Mandela and Patrice Lumumba.
After all, Uyoe reminds me, Pele, at one point in Nigerian history, temporarily halted the civil war between soldiers from the Nigerian and Biafran armies so they could follow commentary at a soccer match in Lagos.
He believes that for that feat alone, Pelé deserves more than mere pedestrian tributes, and he should receive the greatest respect, recognition and honor from Nigeria upon his death.
So, I'm thinking.
No, Nigeria will not fly flags at half mast or declare any days of mourning.
This is simply because most people don't know enough about Pelé's relationship with Nigeria to justify such a big step.
That story must be told.
Idy's question provokes that interrogation.
Shortly after the Nigerian Civil War began in 1967, Brazil's Santos FC, a small urban club in Sao Paolo until made world famous by Pelé, visited Nigeria in 1969 at the invitation of the Nigerian Football Association, NFA.
The Nigerian/Biafra War was raging at the time in the eastern part of Nigeria, but it was hardly felt elsewhere, particularly in Lagos, far from the theater of the brutal war.
Soldiers on both sides, weary from the carnage of war, must have needed a breather.
It must have come in the innocuous form of a friendly soccer match featuring the most famous player on the planet.
In the absence of television as we know it today, radio provided the most powerful means of broadcasting football matches at the time.
Radio was massive and powerful, a great propaganda weapon even for the warring armies of Nigeria and Biafran.
Everyone listened to the radio, especially the big football matches with commentary.
During those matches, people from all over the country gathered in groups around radio sets to listen to commentary delivered with incredible verbal dexterity by legendary commentators led by the late Ishola Folorunsho.
When a goal was scored, for example, the streets erupted in a celebratory orgy…even on the war fronts, it seems.
So when the world's greatest and most celebrated soccer player and his famous club, Santos FC, visited Nigeria in 1969, it was surreal.
These were gods on a pilgrimage to Nigeria.
The match was the most anticipated event in all of Nigeria, dominating all talk, even the war.
On match day, everyone outside the packed Onikan Stadium, Lagos, was glued to radio sets following the match.
The soldiers on the war front could not be left out.
The propaganda party on the radio about who was winning the war between the armies must have given way to comments that grew as the time for the match approached.
No war was going to stop soldiers on the front lines from following procedures at Onikan Stadium, not with the best soccer player in the world playing in Nigeria.
It was a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed.
The reality is that there was no official meeting between the warring armies.
An official truce was never declared.
There was no meeting of any Nigeria/Biafra delegation.
What must have happened was the raw power of football in full bloom and on full display.
There were stories of some soldiers in both armies sheathing their weapons for a few hours before and during the match to listen to the voices of Ishola Folorunsho and company as they captured the match in Lagos.
The scene may also have been captured in an essay written by a creative writer as an isolated account of the Nigerian civil war.
This must be how the unverified story of how that football game temporarily halted the war became legend.
At its best, it was the demonstration of soccer's power to capture the imagination.
Pelé and his team played for Benin City at the newly opened Ogbe Stadium, Benin City, at the invitation of the late Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia.
After 1969, Pelé visited Nigeria two more times.
He was in Nigeria in 1976.
This time, he came as a Pepsi ambassador, promoting soccer and the Pepsi brand on an African tour.
At the same time, he visited the country another black, African-American tennis legend, Arthur Ashe, the first black person to win one of the 4 Grand Slam tennis events: the Wimbledon Championships.
Both were in Nigeria on the day of the failed 1976 military coup.
Ashe was actually playing a match on the center court of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in Lagos when soldiers came in to stop play.
Both athletes were traumatized by the unexpected experience of that fateful day: Friday, February 13, 1976.
They were taken into custody and transferred abroad as soon as possible.
Although Arthur Ashe never returned, two years after that incident, Pelé returned to promoting soccer with another Brazilian club.
The club would play some friendly matches with the Green Eagles in Lagos and some selected clubs across the country including Shooting Stars FC in Ibadan.
The Lagos match took place with Pelé playing for both sides at each half.
The match at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, two days later, continued without Pelé.
He had to abort the engagement early and left the country suddenly for some unspecified reason.
That's how I never got to meet and shake hands with the most admired footballer in history.
He had chosen to wait and play in the Ibadan match instead of playing for the national team in Lagos.
So, I lost my only chance to play alongside the great legend.
Pelé always believed that an African team would win the World Cup before the end of the 20th century.
He also always openly expressed his admiration for the breed of footballers and the Nigerian brand of football.
In Scotland, during the 1989 Youth Championship, he watched the Nigerian team's semi-final match and predicted that the team of Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Okpara and company would win the World Cup before the end of that century.
Such was his belief in the strength of Nigerian football and players.
In fact, many of us believed that if DNA had been taken from him to discover his genetic roots, his ancestry would have been traced back to south-south Nigeria.
The man had "Calabar" written all over his face and physique.
So Idy, should Nigeria fly flags at half mast and declare days of mourning for this legendary Brazilian soccer god?
Or should we just add our collective voices to the chorus of tributes and wish him a peaceful journey back to his Maker?
Most important, however, is that: 'The King is dead, long live the King.' Pele is dead but he lives on forever in the hearts and minds of the soccer faithful.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed seven people dead and 29 injured in an incident that occurred during Calabar's annual carnival on Tuesday.
Corps Sector Commander Maikano Hassan confirmed the number of casualties to the Nigerian News Agency.
He said the incident happened in front of the Jumat Mosque in Bogobiri in the capital city of Cross River during the Bikers Carnival activity of the carnival.
Hassan listed the number of injured to include 21 adult men, three women, two boys and three girls.
He said the injured were taken to the Naval hospital and Calabar University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
He said that the remains of the dead had been deposited in the two hospitals in Calabar.
According to him, the incident occurred when a Toyota Camry car lost control and struck a crowd of spectators during the carnival.
NAN reports that the incident brought an abrupt end to the activity on day five, where the governor of the state, Professor Ben Ayade, was already seated with other dignitaries.
It should be remembered that the annual carnival that began during the administration of Donald Duke, has not been held for the last two years.
The carnival was called off in 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, while no reason was given for the carnival not to take place in 2021.
NAN reports that efforts were still being made to set up some facilities for the hastily assembled 2022 edition of the carnival.
Meanwhile, Governor Ayade expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and vowed to prosecute the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that he was trained by a market woman to become an accountant.
The former Lagos State helmsman had this to say in a tweet on Tuesday night.
He said that in addition to being friends with professors, senior lawyers and bankers, he is also friends with bus drivers and market women.
“My name is Bola Tinubu. I am friends with professors, senior lawyers, bankers, engineers. I am also a friend of the Market Women, Taxi and Bus Drivers.
“You know it was a market woman who trained me to become an accountant…” he tweeted.
Earlier in the day, Tinubu had mocked his fellow presidential candidates, saying that he doesn't fight with pigs.
Tinubu, speaking at a town hall meeting in Calabar, the capital of Cross River state, said Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labor Party (LP) and others did not have the kind of experience he possesses. to rule. the nation.
According to him, other presidential candidates have resorted to insults and harassment to discredit him, divert his attention and struggle with him.

All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu has vowed to conquer poverty in Nigeria if elected in 2023.
Tinubu, who made the pledge at the South-South Region Council meeting in Calabar, Cross River, yesterday, said he will deploy all the human and material resources God has given the country to lift it out of poverty.
The former governor of Lagos denounced the country's slow pace of growth and development, adding that his administration would change the country's fortunes.
He said that education remains the best tool to combat poverty, noting that each state in the federation was blessed with abundant natural resources, all of which he promised would be used to change the fortunes of the country.
However, he pointed out that in doing so, there was a need for the people to remain united and stop the destruction of what God had deposited in the country to enhance its greatness.
“My quest to progressively move Nigeria forward is the only reason I am running; no other person is running with me. Those who say they are running don't have an ounce of honesty in them; they can't keep their promises, all they care about is insulting me and yet they have no facts. I'm a fighter, but I don't fight just anybody, my only concern is moving Nigeria forward,” he said.
He vowed to unite Nigerians to ensure steady growth and progress.
“Moving Nigeria forward is a task that must be done, and anger, division, rupture will not solve it; it can only be achieved by being together. Let's conquer hunger instead of letting hunger conquer us. So let us come together and make great wealth for the nation and our people,” he said.
The presidential candidate said that Cross River had the potential to be the tourist center of Africa.
Speaking earlier, Governor Ben Ayade stressed the need for the country to return to agriculture, if the desire to defeat hunger is to be achieved.
Ayade lamented that, with its vast land, Nigeria has not reached its full potential, particularly in the area of agriculture.
“It is a pity that we are only using our enormous cocoa to import poverty, because we do not have the industry to add value to the product. The same with our huge bitumen deposit, because we import used bitumen for road construction. That is why I say that Tinubu is being summoned by God to come and change the narrative of Nigeria. He did it in Lagos when he conquered the Atlantic Ocean. He also did many other great things in the state and I am optimistic that he will replicate the same in Nigeria, if he is elected president,” Ayade said.
Meanwhile, the governor of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari, has assured that Tinubu would not Islamize Nigeria if he were elected president.
“Leadership is about justice for people, even for animals. Lagos is a mini Nigeria. Both Christians and Muslims and pagans are in Lagos. At one point, you cannot drive in Lagos with your car windows fully open because of thieves. Hardly a day went by without seeing a dead body in the dumps.
“But when Tinubu became governor for eight years, he brought sanity to Lagos. There is no basis in expressing the fear that Tinubu will Islamize Nigeria. Is not true. Buhari Islamized Nigeria after seven years in office? Obasanjo Christianized Nigeria after eight years in office. Did Jonathan make Nigeria a Christian country after six years in office? I can tell you that if you gather all the presidential candidates before a blind man, he will choose Tinubu ”.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State expressed optimism that Tinubu would win the 2023 election.
“The big problem in this country is bitter politics. But when young men and women come together for a common cause without bitterness, there is hope for this country. We have to choose a candidate who is proven and trusted. This is Ahmed Tinubu. He was governor for eight years. He chose a successor who was liked by the people. History will repeat itself. During the military rule under General Ibrahim Babangida's transition to civilian rule, there was an election between MKO Abiola and Alhaji Bashir Tofa of SDP and NRC. Abiola's running mate was a Muslim. It was a Muslim-Muslim formula that won the elections. Tofa who chose a Christian running mate lost the election. Then Tinubu will win the elections."
Laying out the reasons why APC governors from the north decided to support a presidential candidate from the south, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai said: “In the spirit of unity, fairness and justice in the country, after of President Buhari's term, it is only fair that the presidency should go south. And we met in the Katsina lodge before the governor Aminu Bello Masari who said that among all the presidential candidates we should go for Ahmed Tinubu because of his trajectory while he was governor of Lagos”.
The three governors spoke at a town hall meeting with a group of Christians from northern Nigeria.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressed her satisfaction with the Christian group, saying her husband would not let them down if he came to power, describing him as a workaholic and generous man "full of intelligence".

Dec 07 (THEWILL) - The Pension Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) expressed its appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the successes recorded in the pension administration in Nigeria.
Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, Executive Secretary of PTAD, had this to say in Calabar during a Stakeholder Engagement Forum organized for pensioners in the South-South Zone of the country.
He said the president has prioritized the well-being of the country's retirees and advised inmates to engage with contenders at the federal and state levels, so they know who has a stake in their well-being.
He said this is important because retirees need to have a president who listens and the country cannot afford to go back to the time when retirees were owed for months.
“PTAD is grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari, who from the start of his administration, has made pensions an unwritten front line charge and to all our other major stakeholders, who have made possible the modest successes achieved by PTAD.
"When entering the campaign and electoral season, it is pertinent that pensioners commit themselves to the contenders at the Federal and State level, to find out their position or background in pension management, and obtain from them a firm commitment to the well-being of the pensioners. .
“The need to have a president who listens to the needs of retirees cannot be overstated.
Trending Anxiety as FG takes terrorist financiers to court“We cannot afford to go back to the time when DBS retirees were owed months of pension arrears and their needs were relegated to the background.
“We sincerely hope that the next administration, and whoever emerges as the
President, you will be as favorably disposed towards Defined Benefit Plan pensioners as the administration of President Muhammadu
Buhari," he said.
He added that through the unwavering support of President Muhammadu Buhari, PTAD has completely liquidated the "inherited unfunded obligations of all
Extinct/privatized agencies were handed over to us, with the exception of NITEL/MTEL, which we are fully committed to liquidating.”
Speaking further, Ejikeme explained that his journey has been a progressive one, filled with creativity, dedication, commitment, persistence, and significant achievements.
He advised retirees not to patronize pension scammers, saying that “no PTAD staff member will call or send any messages requesting payment or calling a certain phone number before their arrears or tips are paid.”
Comrade Benjamin Ettah, National South-South Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), in his reply, said that the achievements of the PTAD have been marvelous.
He thanked the President for taking an interest in the welfare of the pensioners and added that the PNU has resolved to honor him for his concern for the welfare of the pensioners.
Also speaking, Dr. Margaret Idiong, a 2007 retirement from Uyo University Teaching Hospital, said the narrative has changed with PTAD.
