El-Fasher, Sudan – Na wah o! As the sun rise for El-Fasher, tragedy don fall on top the city. Reports dey fly say the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia don kill over 460 civilians for the Saudi Maternity Hospital. Dis matter no be joke, e don make the whole world open eye wide! Na the head of the UN health agency, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, wey talk say dem dey ‘appalled and deeply shocked’ by wetin happen. Based on wetin the Sudan Doctors’ Network talk, RSF fighters just dey enter the hospital dey cold-blooded execute everybody wey dem see inside – from patients to their family members.
According to dem, Saudi Hospital don turn to slaughterhouse as medical facilities dem don turn to places wey no get pity again (Chai! Wetin we go talk?). Dis level of violence no be small tin o! Even medical workers dey suffer, as the RSF don kidnap six medics, including four doctors and extra hands wey dey work there, demanding for ransoms wey pass N150 million for their release. Na serious matter! The local activists wey dey call demself el-Fasher Resistance Committee don report say e dey like say after the attack, na just silent dey follow.
El-Fasher no be just small city; na the last stronghold of the army for Darfur region. But after dem capture am last Sunday, the drama wey don follow no break naija heart alone, as plenty people don dey fear for their lives. About 250,000 souls dey trapped there, most of dem from non-Arab communities. The RSF dey claim say dem no dey target anybody based on ethnicity, but the stories wey dey come from the city fit make saint shiver.
Reports don show say help agencies dey struggle to gather information because communications don blackout (as if na Nigeria we dey!). Videos wey dey circulate show people de struggle to escape the madness, but instead, dem dey face shelling and brutal attacks. One man wey manage escape talk say, ‘the RSF beat us, insult us, even film us as we dey go through hell’. Chai! This na the real life wahala be that o!
Jan Egeland, one former UN humanitarian officer, fit talk say the condition for El-Fasher dey catastrophic. ‘This na the biggest humanitarian emergency on Earth and e dey happen for shadow,’ he talk. Tedros come add voice wey dey demand immediate stop to all attacks on health facilities. ‘Make no patient, health worker or facility suffer under this lawlessness,’ he komot his shout for peace!
As hospitals dey caught in crossfire, more than 1,200 deaths don been confirmed since the start of this war, and na urgent ceasefire dey follow these calls wey no wan stop. The RSF now control most of Darfur and Kordofan while army dey hold the capital, Khartoum. Now na power tussle between two groups wey once be allies, yet e turn to this madness wey everybody dey run away from. Na real gbege, but we fit dey pay attention make we see how dis whole matter go end.
