Senator Monday Okpebholo, wey be di new Governor-elect of Edo State, don accuse di outgoing administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki of massive looting and property vandalisation. Okpebholo make dis accusation on Wednesday, less than one month to di official handover of power in di state.
Okpebholo warn banks and other financial institutions to avoid approving loans to any government official in di outgoing administration. He say dis in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday night, citing reports of ongoing looting of government assets like vehicles, furniture, and rice palliatives by some unnamed officials.
He talk say, “It is sad that barely one month to handover, di out-going administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki is still allegedly obtaining loans from banks and other financial institutions under very shady headings.” Okpebholo also mention di massive looting and vandalisation of properties, including vehicles, furniture, gadgets, household utensils, and even carpets from offices and residences of di Edo State Government.
Okpebholo call on di relevant authorities, including di Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), di Department of State Service (DSS), and di police, to thoroughly probe di allegations and ensure those found culpable are held accountable. He also plead that assets in di Government House and offices should be protected from vandals.
When contacted for a reaction, Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Chris Nehikhare, decline to comment on di issue but promise that di state government would officially react to di allegations di next day.
