Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) don warn residents to no dey build house or any structure without consulting professionals first. Dis warning come out during the NITP 2024 Annual General Meeting wey hold for Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to the NITP Chairman, Adefelola Sogbesan, building without proper consultation dey pose big risk to the environment and the structure itself. He talk say many people dey build houses and other structures for the wrong places because dem no consult experts. For example, someone fit buy land to build school but end up building am for area wey dem designate for residential use.
Sogbesan emphasize say collaboration among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) very important for driving sustainable development across Ogun State. The theme of this year’s AGM be “Cross-Sector Collaboration in the Production and Implementation of Development Plans: The Imperative of Synergy Among MDAs”.
The Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Omoniyi, and the Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, also talk at the event. Dem stress the importance of working together to ensure development plans dey well-coordinated and sustainable. Odunlami warn say ignoring proper building regulations fit jeopardize the state’s development.
The Special Adviser/Director General of the Bureau of Lands and Survey, Segun Fowora, call for stricter enforcement and more punitive measures against those wey no follow building codes. He say many people dey take advantage of their connections to avoid penalties.
