Some residents of Ota in Ogun State have taken to the streets to protest against the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The residents, who gathered at the main office of IBEDC, are demanding that the company revert them back to the previous electricity tariff band, known as Band B.
The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the current electricity billing system, which they claim is exorbitant and unfair. They argued that the new tariff has significantly increased their electricity bills, making it difficult for them to afford the basic necessity of electricity.
The residents also highlighted the poor power supply in the area, stating that despite the high bills, they are not receiving the corresponding amount of electricity. They called on IBEDC to address these issues promptly and restore the previous tariff band to alleviate their suffering.
This protest comes at a time when there is growing public discontent with the electricity distribution companies across Nigeria. Many consumers are complaining about high bills and inadequate power supply, leading to increased pressure on the government and the electricity sector to find lasting solutions.
