For the latest development in the Labour Party leadership crisis, the panel led by Peter Obi and Alex Otti no get the power to appeal the judgment wey affirm Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party. This information come from the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, in an exclusive interview with *The PUNCH* on Sunday.
According to Ifoh, the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman, which includes Obi and Otti, no be party to the case in the first place. Therefore, dem no fit appeal the judgment. The Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier declared the national convention that returned Abure and his National Working Committee to office as valid and constitutional.
The court also order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Abure as the LP National Chairman. Abure himself express his readiness for reconciliation and appeal to Obi to help pacify the party bigwigs and other aggrieved members.
However, Senator Nenadi Usman, the Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, announce in a statement that they will appeal the judgment. But Ifoh insist say this move no go work because the committee no have the locus standi to challenge the court’s judgment.
