NYSC: Why Corps Members No Dey Collect N77,000 New Allowance

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) don explain why corps members no dey collect the new allowance of N77,000 wey the Federal Government approve. According to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the government no release the funds wey dem need to implement the new allowance.

The Federal Government had approve the increase from N33,000 to N77,000 effective from July 2024, based on a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated 25 September 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta. However, the new allowance no reflect for the September payment.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed talk to BBC Hausa Service on Saturday, October 5, 2024, say not only corps members but even NYSC staff salaries wey increase about four to five months ago no yet be implemented. He say, “We dey hopeful say the new pay go be implemented soon, though the funds no yet be released to us.”

President Bola Tinubu sign into law the new Minimum Wage Bill on July 29, 2024, which stipulate N70,000 as minimum wage for Nigerian workers. But for now, corps members still dey wait for their new allowance.
