Nnamdi Kanu: Court Fix Date For Him to Come Out, But Chief Judge No Agree to Change Judge

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), dey face new developments in his court case. Recently, Nigeria‘s appeal court fix October 17 as the date to grant him bail after ruling that his arrest and extradition were illegal.

Despite this positive turn, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, deny Nnamdi Kanu’s plea to recuse Justice Binta Nyako from his case. Justice Tsoho return Kanu’s case file to Justice Nyako, citing that she had handled the case for the most part since 2015 and was the most suitable to see it through to its conclusion.

Kanu’s lawyers had applied for Justice Nyako’s recusal, alleging that she disregarded Supreme Court orders and expressing loss of confidence in her. However, Justice Tsoho insist that if Kanu still want Justice Nyako to recuse herself, he must file a written motion with an affidavit stating all the grounds for the recusal.

The case against Kanu has been ongoing for years, with many calling for his release. The recent appeal court ruling that his arrest and extradition were illegal has sparked hopes for his freedom, but the legal battle is far from over.
