As di election for new leaders across di 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State dey approach on November 2, 2024, di state chapter of di Labour Party don call for peaceful and credible conduct of di poll.
Speaking in Lafia, di state capital, on Saturday during di commencement of screening of aspirants vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions in di forthcoming election, di state Chairman of di Labour Party, Alexander Ombugu express di readiness of di party to participate in di electoral process.
Ombugu say, “Di Labour Party in Nasarawa State is fully ready to participate in di November 2 Local Government election. We just commence di screening of our aspirants today, and by di 15th of this month (October), we hope to commence with di primary elections for both di chairmanship and councillorship positions.”
Ombugu also call on di State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) to ensure that di election is free, fair, and credible. He say, “We decided to participate in di LG poll because of di assurances given to us by NASIEC that di elections will be free and fair. We are hoping that di electoral umpire will stand by its words and allow di process to go smoothly without any form of interference.”
Ombugu further declare di state LP’s support for di Supreme Court’s judgment which granted full autonomy to di 774 LGs in di country. He explain that di autonomy that was granted to di LGs would enhance democracy at di grassroots level and empower di authorities to make decisions that would have positive impacts on di lives of di rural dwellers.
