Naija People Dey Suffer as New PMS Pump Price Increase Cost of Living

Nigerians dey face serious hardship as the new pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, don increase again. The price now dey N1,030 per litre, up from N897 in Abuja, and N998 per litre in other places. Dis increase be the second one in just one month and it has caused a lot of pain for many people.

The hike in fuel price has made transportation costs to skyrocket, especially in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Many Nigerians dey complain say the increase dey affect their economic survival and well-being. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, describe the increase as “unfortunate and insensitive” in a statement he release.

Obi say the Federal Government’s wrong policy choices dey cause the difficult economic conditions Nigerians dey face. He add say the NNPCL, which raised the fuel price without any explanation, dey show lack of compassion for the people. He call on the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, and President Bola Tinubu to reverse the price hike.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, also condemn the fuel pump price increase, saying a private company like NNPC should not dictate fuel prices for Nigerians. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) threaten to stop operations nationwide because of the high cost of PMS sold to them by NNPC.

IPMAN reveal say the cost of petrol from Dangote Petroleum Refinery to NNPC be about N898/litre, but NNPC dey sell the same product to independent marketers at N1,010/litre in Lagos. Dis situation dey cause a lot of confusion and hardship for many Nigerians.
