Na 75% of Candidates Fail UTME 2025, Only 420K Score Above 200

Lagos, NigeriaJoint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) don release results for 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Monday. Data show say over 1.5 million candidates out of 1,955,069 wey sit for the exam score below 200, an indication say dem struggle for this year’s test.

According to JAMB, only 420,415 candidates score above 200, meaning say about 75% fail to meet the common benchmark wey many universities dey expect. Less than 1% of candidates, about 0.63%, score over 300, wey place them in the elite category for performance.

The report explain say 73,441 candidates (3.76%) achieve scores between 250 and 299, while 334,560 candidates (17.11%) score between 200 and 249. Majorly, 983,187 candidates (50.29%) score between 160 and 199, wey be average point for many institutions.

“40,247 underage candidates wey JAMB allow to show their exceptional abilities no perform well, as only 467 (1.16%) meet the threshold for exceptional ability,” JAMB statement talk. Dem don also mention say performance for the next stages still dey pending.

The examination start for April 24, and many parents and students dey worry about these results. Because most of the candidates wey score below 200 might not get admission for their desired courses.

For candidates wey wan check their results, dem fit do am through the website or SMS. To check via the website, dem go visit the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s eFacility portal for https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/login. Dem go enter dem login details like email and password wey dem use during registration.

After dem login, dem go click on “Check UTME Results” button to see dem scores for each subject taken. Alternatively, for SMS, candidates fit type “RESULT” followed by their JAMB Registration Number, then send am to either 55019 or 66019. E dey cost N50 for this SMS method, wey go deduct from dem airtime.

As result release affect admissions, experts dey advise candidates to consider alternative options and prepare well for future sittings. JAMB emphasize say dem go continue to monitor candidates’ progress and encourage better preparations in the coming years.
