Abuja, Nigeria – Na wah o! Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) don shake table as dem put Nigeria 36 state governors and di Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, for sharp corner. Dem don ask dem to quickly show wetin dem do with di estimated ₦14 trillion from fuel subsidy savings wey dem receive since mid-2023. If dem no talk, e go be like say legal action dey rain for dem.
Di warning bin come from Kolawole Oluwadare, wey be Deputy Director of SERAP. Di gist carry di rich flavor of Freedom of Information (FoI) requests wey dem send on October 4, 2025. Na serious matter o, dis money suppose show face for public projects, but instead, Nigerians still dey struggle for basic things like beta healthcare and education.
SERAP don dey shout say, ‘Look, make you no carry di money chop alone o! Nigerians wey dey suffer because of di removal of fuel subsidy need better things.’ Na true talk be dat, because if di money no land for where e dey supposed show, e fit turn to wahala for poor Nigerians.
Dem even suggest say make di governors and Wike invite di Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and di Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to help monitor di spending, so dat dem no go carry di money go do private business. Na wetin we go dey call ‘money wey no fit enter private pocket’.
SERAP dey vex say despite di trillions wey governors dey collect monthly (about ₦1.6 trillion as of 2025), di conditions for many Nigerians still dey dey worsen. According to dem, millions of pipo never see di impact of di fuel subsidy savings wey dey fly around. For wetin? Governor dey travel upandan, but di ordinary citizen still dey face di harsh reality of poverty.
Dem dey watch closely as di money dey allocated from di Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) reach only dem wey fit get. SERAP also remind di governors sey dem gatz follow di law as dem no fit just dey manage public funds anyhow. Sudden increase in allocation no fit mean anything if e no translate to better life for di people.
SERAP don give dem seven days to collect dem head and spill di beans about di spending, otherwise, dem fit face SERAP’s legal hammer. Di message clear – accountability no be joke. If no transparency dey, na dem wey go suffer di wahala.
Na dis time wey we dey live, secrecy wey dey surround public funds no fit continue. Justice go only reign if dem come out clear on how dem dey spend di subsidy savings. Na wetin dem gatz do to ensure say di poor citizens fit enjoy di benefits instead of seeing di governors and their aides fly private jets while di common man dey struggle.
Abeg, we no wan hear sey di Supreme Court don talk and dem still dey hide. Na time to shine light on di matter and show say welfare of di citizens dey important. Let’s see wetin go happen, but we dey wait for dem response!
