My people, wetin dey happen for Eba Island no be small matter! Ondo State don turn up the heat for Ogun State wey claim say Eba Island dey their side, but Ondo no gree bụ and talk say the oil-rich land na their own territory, for Ilaje Local Government Area!
Recently, Ondo State government wey dey led by Governor Akeredolu, through im Special Adviser on Communication, Allen Sowore, don release statement wey clear say Ogun State dey mislead people with wetin no dey accurate. Dem talk say, ‘Ogun State’s claim of ownership of Eba Island is totally unacceptable.’ Na wah!
For the statement, dem also talk say Nigerian constitution clear say mineral resources like oil na federal property, but how we go categorize the land where dem dey? Na historical records and proper laws go settle matter. Eba Island dey under Atijere, wey don dey exist since 1937. The landowners dey proud indigenes. Ondo State talk say dem dey ready to defend this territory for law.
Ogun State don yan say dem get interest to join the league of oil-producing states, but Ondo dey remind dem say no bi press releases go give dem oil status. Dem need steady historical evidence wey fit back their claims. The disagreement don even reach level wey Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, go talk say Mr. President don approve commercial oil drilling for Tongeji Island, only for Ogun State later to accept say dem no sabi the correct location well. Chai, na wah!
Now, everywhere dey hot as the matter don escalate from local quarrel to interstate wahala. Ondo State believe say Eba Island na their own by all means, and dem get historical records wey dey show say Eba don dey under dem for many years. Dem also involve traditional rulers and local communities as evidence to support their claim.
Ogun State don dey defend their own position too, claiming that according to their maps, Eba Island dey their territory. Kayode Akinmade, wey be adviser to Ogun State Governor, don dismiss allegations that traditional rulers fit determine state boundaries. Dem talk say na state government dey in charge and the federal government get the last say on oil matter.
As the matter dey unfold, Ondo State don urge everybody to calm down and assured dem say dem go defend their territorial integrity dem wisely, while dem dey maintain good relationship with Ogun State. E no easy to settle territorial disputes, but one thing wey clear be say, the battle for Eba Island go continue until one side don gree!
