Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, don tell media practitioners to make sure dem hold public office holders accountable for the sake of the public. Him make dis call on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a 3-day retreat for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Press Corps, wey dey hold at Eleventh House Hotel and Suites, Jericho, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde, who speak through him Chief Press Secretary/Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, say that media be the fulcrum of society and its watchdog. Him emphasize say “the media supposed to hold those in government accountable” because dem dey work in the interest of the public.
Him explain say if media no hold public office holders accountable, dem fit do whatever dem like without pursuing public interest. Makinde stress say transparency and accountability from public office holders go lead to development, which be the ultimate goal of the media and the wish of the society.
Dr Olanrewaju also talk about how Governor Makinde’s transparent leadership don help Oyo State achieve accelerated and sustainable development across security, education, health, and economic sectors. Him give example say few years ago, bank robbery be rampant in Ibadan, but in the last four years, no record of bank robbery again because of the steps the governor take to tackle security challenges.
The Chairman of PDP Press Corps, Samuel Ogidan, commend Governor Makinde for him efforts in improving infrastructure and impacting other sectors. Ogidan describe Makinde as a visionary leader with a passion for transformational governance and praise him for being a media-friendly governor who understand the role of free and responsible journalism in strengthening democracy.
