Libya dey go through serious crisis, and things no dey look good for the country. Recently, the International Criminal Court (ICC) unseal arrest warrants for six men wey dey linked to the Al Kaniyat militia, which dey accused of committing war crimes in Libya.
The ICC Prosecutor, Karim Khan, say the investigation show evidence of crimes like murder, torture, sexual violence, and rape against residents of Tarhunah. The six suspects include leaders and senior members of the Al Kaniyat militia and some Libyan security officials. The warrants were issued in April and July 2023 but were kept secret until now.
Libya has been in political turmoil since the NATO-backed uprising that topple and kill Moammar Gadhafi in 2011. The country dey split between two rival administrations in the east and the west, each backed by militias and foreign governments. This division dey cause serious instability and violence.
In another development, Malta’s Prime Minister, Robert Abela, call for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya during the UN General Assembly debate. He stress the need for full implementation of the Libyan arms embargo to help the Libyan people find a lasting solution to their institutional crisis.
The situation in Libya also draw comparison with Sudan, where war dey rage and factions dey fight for control. Security experts warn that Sudan might follow Libya’s path if the conflict no dey resolved. The war in Sudan has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced a significant portion of the population.
