Kenya‘s Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, who dey face impeachment proceedings, don fall sick and dey hospital, according to his lawyer, Paul Muite.
This news come out just as the Senate dey prepare to vote on whether to remove am from office. Gachagua’s lawyer reveal dis information on Thursday, saying the Deputy President very sick and dey receive treatment in hospital.
The Senate impeachment trial against Gachagua start on Wednesday, after the National Assembly vote to impeach am last week on 11 counts, including corruption, insubordination, undermining the government, and practising ethnically divisive politics. Despite his health issues, Gachagua still manage to appear at parliament shortly before the session begin on Thursday.
Gachagua’s legal team don argue say the impeachment process no fair and dey fast-tracked, but the High Court rule against stopping the process entirely. If the Senate approve the impeachment, Gachagua go become the first Deputy President in Kenya to be removed from office through this process since the introduction of impeachment provisions in the 2010 constitution.
The political tension in Kenya high since youth-led protests against the government start in June over unpopular tax increases. Gachagua accuse of supporting these protests and being marginalized by President William Ruto. He describe the situation as “political deceit, conmanship, and betrayal”.
