Abuja, Nigeria – As we dey celebrate Universal Children’s Day, wahala don show face again for Kebbi State. Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, don raise eyebrow as she demand say make dem free 25 schoolgirls wey dem abduct for Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. She no gree take am lightly as she don call am attack on the future and dignity of Nigerian children.

Dis serious matter happen on Wednesday for Abuja during the 7th National Children’s Parliament alongside unveiling The State of the Nigerian Girl Child Report II for 2025. I no go lie, dis situation dey vex her well, well, especially as we still dey talk how dem go secure our children.

She talk say, “As a mother, Minister, and concerned citizen, I no fit keep quiet. I demand their immediate and unconditional release. Abductors, please hear my plea. Return these girls safely.” (E be like say she sabi how dem dey do “Return of the Jedi” for Nollywaood, abi na only me?)

Meanwhile, she take time drop the 2025 edition of The State of the Nigerian Girl Child Report, wey show say child marriage done dey reduce from 44% to 28.6%. But make nobody dey carry eye dey deceive dem, this figure still dey represent serious gbege wey require plenty work. Almost 25 million child brides for Nigeria? Na wa o!

Wetin we go do about this wahala? She also announce say government don create Costed National Action Plan to End Child, Early, and Forced Marriage, sef wey dey structured for accountability. As e be, na time for action o, not just talk.

As if e no be serious matter, the Country Director of Save the Children International, Duncan Harvey, don join for the gist, express satisfaction say child marriage dey decrease but also remind everybody say investment in girls’ rights and education still dey very important. “Children na the future, no be only wey go dey find money.”
