Kebbi State Government don announce say dem dey shut down College of Health Technology, Jega, immediately because of violent student protest. The protest happen on Thursday and it turn violent, forcing the government to take dis decision.
According to reports, the students protest because of allegations of extortion by the college management. The students claim say the management collect extra money from dem, up to N23 million, for registration fees for 250 graduating students. Dem also talk say the college introduce new public health programme and demand additional N65,000 from each student for index registration, on top of N30,000 dem already pay.
The situation get out of hand when students start stone vehicles and set the residence of the provost, Haruna Saidu-Sauwa, on fire. His vehicle also get vandalized. College staff run away from the scene because of fear before security personnel come intervene.
The police PRO for Kebbi state, Nafiu Abubakar, confirm the incident and say police still dey investigate the cause of the unrest.
