Kanu don dey serve life imprisonment for Abuja, wahala don increase!

Abuja, Nigeria – Na serious matter wey don unfold as federal high court for Abuja don sentence Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of di Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment. E don be 10 years since dem first arrest am, and now dem don find am guilty of terrorism and other wahala.

Justice James Omotosho wey dey handle di case, deliver di sentence on Thursday, November 20, 2025. For im ruling, di judge tok say Kanu na terror suspect wey no show any sign of remorse for di crimes wey e commit. E say Kanu dey make plenti broadcasts wey dey incite people to violent actions, as part of im campaign to create Biafra, a separate nation for di southeastern region of Nigeria.

Di judge also state say, although dem fit give Kanu death penalty, e decide to temper justice with mercy (no be wetin we dey see everyday). Kanu dey face seven-count charges and im get chance to appeal di judgement within 90 days.

Many no expect dis kind ruling; Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, don declare di judgement as “aberration,” insisting say e no follow law but politics (typical Nigerian drama!). Dem plan to fight am in di higher courts. Kanu, wey also get British citizenship, don deny di charges, claiming say dem no valid and e refuse to defend im sef during di trial. Instead, he dey insist say di whole case na joke.

Justice Omotosho bin sentence Kanu life imprisonment on counts one, four, five, and six, while he get 20 years for count three and five years for count seven. These sentences go run concurrently, so wetin be di point? Na di same time dem go serve dem! Dis ruling don unleash new tension for di southeast, as many dey fear say di situation fit escalate.

Dem say Kanu no dey allow any digital device without supervision, meaning say im go dey locked up tight, no social media wahala from inside prison (im fit miss di memes!). Justice also order Kanu to be placed for protective custody because of di volatile nature of di case and di fact say him get friends and enemies inside and outside di prison.

Reaction don dey pour in from all side. Adegboyega Awomolo, di lead prosecutor, claim say di judiciary don save Nigeria from di IPOB wahala. E say dis judgement na warning for any miscreants wey think say dem fit challenge di law (Nigeria no dey play game o!).

Di Deputy Speaker of di House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, wey also be Igbo like Kanu, don express hope say dem fit still engage for political dialogue to settle di matter peacefully. “All hope no dey lost,” he tok. Na wetin we go need as di situation dey heat up.

As Kanu dey prepare to appeal im case, wetin we fit learn be say di story no go end here. How e go play out still dey unclear. Na just one thing dey sure; di saga of Kanu go continue to dey gather dust and national attention for long. E no go be surprise if we see more drama for di courts in di coming days as di chase for justice continues.
