Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State following the devastating fuel tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, claimed the lives of over 100 individuals and left more than 70 others with varying degrees of burns. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the incident as a “heart-wrenching tragedy” that marks a significant loss not only for Jigawa State but for the nation at large.
“We received with deep shock the news of the devastating fire in Majia town, Taura Local Government Area, Jigawa State, resulting in the loss of many lives and the hospitalization of numerous victims,” Governor Yusuf said.
On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, he extended their deepest sympathies to Governor Umar Namadi, the Government and people of Jigawa State, especially to the families of the deceased and the Majia community. He prayed for “eternal peace to the souls of the departed and speedy recovery to those injured”, saying “May we never witness such a tragic incident again.”
The incident has sparked widespread grief and calls for improved safety measures in fuel transportation across the country. President Bola Tinubu and other high-ranking officials have also expressed their condolences and pledged support for the affected families and the state government.
