Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja don recuse herself from the trial of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. On Tuesday, Kanu’s Counsel, Alloy Ejimakor try persuade the Court to suspend the trial, citing say dem never prepare well for their defense.
However, Kanu surprise everybody by interrupting Ejimakor, ordering him to sit down, and expressing say he no get confidence for the Court wey Justice Binta Nyako dey preside, requesting make the trial judge recuse herself.
Despite attempts by Prosecutor Counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, to urge the Court to continue the trial, Justice Nyako agree to step down from the case. The case file now go forward to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment to another trial judge and further actions.
Following the Court’s adjournment, Kanu talk to Journalists where he criticize the handling of his case and the escalating insecurity for the South East region of the country.
