England don announce Thomas Tuchel as their new manager, according to statement wey come from Football Association (FA) on Wednesday. Tuchel, wey be 51 years old, go start work on January 1, 2025. For now, Lee Carsley wey be interim boss go still dey in charge for next month’s UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and Republic of Ireland.
Tuchel’s appointment come after long search wey FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott start in July, after Gareth Southgate decide to step down following England’s defeat to Spain in Euro 2024 final. Tuchel, wey don manage teams like Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, say he dey very proud to lead England team.
“I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting,” Tuchel say in statement.
Tuchel also mention say he go work closely with Anthony Barry, wey go be his assistant coach. “Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud,” he add.
Tuchel become the third foreign-born manager and first German to take charge of England. He known for his tactical nous and success in cup competitions, including winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021.
