Bwari, Nigeria — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) don launch decoy websites wey trap 180 candidates wey pay money for leaked exam questions and score upgrade ahead of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, wey be JAMB Registrar, talk dis during press briefing for Bwari, Abuja. Him explain say dem set up dis fake websites to look like the ones wey fraudsters dey use, to catch candidates wey wan cheat their way through the exam.
“JAMB don identify no fewer than 180 candidates wey don pay from ₦30,000 and above to these fraudulent sites for non-existent services like ‘leaked examination items’ and score augmentation,” Oloyede talk. “Dis sites na trap wey aim to reduce the growing incidence of fraud and corruption among our youth,” him add.
Oloyede don talk say candidates wey engage with these decoy platforms go face strict punishment, including cancellation of their UTME and Direct Entry results, and possible legal prosecution. “Dis candidates go receive sanctions, wey fit include disqualification from future exams,” him say.
Oloyede also emphasize say JAMB get legal mandate to protect the integrity of the UTME process, and dem go continue to use innovative ways to enhance examination security and transparency. “Each year, as we dey implement new strategies, fraudsters dey adapt their own too. So, we must stay ahead of dem,” him explain.
He go on to caution schools, parents, and the general public against the undue pressure on students to achieve high scores. “UTME no be school-based exam. Schools wey dey chase ‘high-score glory’ must stop wey no help our students,” he insist.
Candidates wey dey prepare for UTME don receive warning to stay away from platforms wey dey offer unrealistic success promises. JAMB don promise to take strict action against anybody wey dey support examination malpractice.
Oloyede use dis opportunity to highlight say the Mock UTME wey happen earlier this year help dem test their technological upgrades for security. “Dis mock exercise allow us to fine-tune our systems before the main exam. We must evolve our techniques as candidates dey get wiser,” him conclude.
