Hurricane Milton don bring serious trouble to St. Lucie County, Florida, as the storm pass through the area. According to reports, at least six people don die after several tornadoes sweep through the county on Wednesday.
The tornadoes, which were spawned by Hurricane Milton, cause significant damage to multiple homes and structures across St. Lucie County, including the City of Port St. Lucie and surrounding unincorporated areas. Spanish Lakes Country Club Village near Fort Pierce was one of the hardest hit areas, where a senior mobile home community was severely damaged.
Sheriff Keith Pearson of St. Lucie County confirm that the county is in ‘100% rescue mode’ as search and rescue crews are working tirelessly to find victims trapped in the rubble. Over 100 personnel, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Highway Patrol, National Guard, and state Florida Fish & Wildlife, are involved in the search and rescue operations.
As of Thursday morning, over 64,000 customers in St. Lucie County are without power, with Florida Power & Light (FPL) reporting 48,870 outages and Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) reporting 15,567 outages. The county is urging residents to stay off the roads until they are deemed safe to avoid impeding critical response and recovery operations.
St. Lucie County has also opened an additional shelter at Fort Pierce Central High School for residents displaced by the tornadoes. Nurses and crisis counselors are available on-site to provide assistance.
