Suspected gunmen have killed a councilorship candidate in Ogun State, causing widespread shock and tension in the area. Adeyinka Adeleke, who was the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government Ward 15, was attacked on Saturday afternoon in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
According to reports, the assailants arrived in a tinted car and shot Adeleke at close range before smashing his head with stones to ensure he was dead. The incident occurred around 2 pm and created palpable tension in the area, with residents scrambling for safety.
A source close to the incident described the scene, saying, “The gunmen came in a tinted car, shot him, and hit him with stones till he died. There was tension in the area as people were scampering for safety.”
Adeleke was also a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta before his death. The family of the deceased took his body away for burial, and the police have confirmed the incident.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, was yet to respond to messages at the time of the report. The incident has left the community in a state of sadness and fear, with many questioning whether it was a cultist attack or another form of violence.
