Guinea‘s military junta chief, General Mamady Doumbouya, don ban all ministers from travelling abroad without his permission. Dis directive take effect immediately and go dey in place till de end of dis year, according to de government’s secretary general.
De announcement say, “On de orders of de president, all ministers on official missions overseas must conclude their affairs and return to de national territory.” Right now, several ministers dey outside de country, but dem must come back home.
Government spokesperson Ousmane Gaoual Diallo explain say dis decision aim to reduce public expenditure. He say de measure “enhances governmental effectiveness while ensuring optimal management of state resources,” as reported to AFP.
However, senior officials and diplomats still go fit represent Guinea internationally, he note. General Doumbouya, who was a former colonel and now de president of de West African nation, come to power in September 2021. Initially, de junta agree to restore civilian governance by de end of 2024, but dem later say dem no go meet dis deadline.
Some government officials don express support for Doumbouya to participate in de upcoming presidential election.
