Basel, Switzerland – The 69th Eurovision Song Contest go down for Saturday, May 17, as Graham Norton returns to commentate the grand finale.
Norton, acclaimed for his dynamic commentary, will handle the night as 26 countries, including the UK, fight for the top spot. With millions tuning in, Eurovision showcase music from diverse cultures, marking a memorable night filled with competition and creativity.
The Eurovision stage bursts back on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, and BBC Radio 2, promising excitement as Switzerland returns as host country this year, a place that hold historic significance as the original host in 1956.
Norton expressed his passion for the competition, saying, “I love everything about Eurovision. Its scale and sincerity are unmatched. The mix of music styles and diverse talents, alongside fans from all over coming together, creates an atmosphere so unique.”
For this year, he highlighted standout performers, including Malta’s Miriana Conte and Ireland’s EMMY, who present lively party anthems. Norton noted, “Italy might have a good year with a classic rock ballad from Lucio Corsi.”
UK’s entry, ‘What The Hell Just Happened?’ by the girl band Remember Monday, is poised to attract attention. Comprising Charlotte, Holly, and Lauren, the group is making waves in social media and surely excite Eurovision fans as they prepare to perform.
“They have a great advantage. Their flawless harmonies and catchy song will surely impress,” Norton remarked about Remember Monday. “With a strong place in the running order, they have a good chance.”
Claire, Holly, and Lauren, hold the privilege to represent the UK. Their entry, inspired by confusions from nights out, unfolds with vibrant energy. The song travels through relatable themes, revealing the ups and downs that often follow a wild night.
Reflecting on their journey, the band expressed the thrill of performing live. “It’s overwhelming to think about 160 million people watching us. We’re really just focusing on giving our best show,” said Lauren.
Besides the highly charged performance, viewers can expect unique staging hints at the Grand Final. Remember Monday aim to captivate with stunning visuals overseen by creative director Ace Bowerman, who has shaped performances for numerous music icons.
Amid their busy schedule traveling through Europe, the band has engaged with fellow competitors, partaking in a whirlwind EU press tour, meet-and-greets, and showcasing their performance skills.
One memorable moment shared was performing on an Icelandic trawler. “Being part of the Eurovision community has brought us incredible experiences, and we cherish every moment,” Charlotte added.
On their potential performance on the Eurovision stage, Holly noted, “We want the audience to have fun! Our throwback to musical theatre will run through the performance.”
The eyes of Europe will be on Switzerland as 26 countries battle it out in what promises to be an unforgettable night.
