Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State don announce a new minimum wage of N72,500 for all workers in the state, effective immediately. This decision dey follow the report from the Kogi State Minimum Wage Implementation Committee wey dem establish on September 17.
The new minimum wage of N72,500 dey higher than the national minimum wage of N70,000 wey President Bola Tinubu recently sign into law. Governor Ododo say dis increase show im commitment to the welfare of all workers in the state.
Aside from the wage increase, Governor Ododo also give tax relief to all state workers for the next one year. Him say no Pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) tax nor any other deductions go dey made within dis period.
Ododo, who be former labour leader and civil servant before him enter politics, say him know the struggles wey civil servants dey face. Him promise to use im position to better the lives of the people and ensure fair allocation of state resources.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Gabriel Amari, commend Governor Ododo for his worker-friendly policies. Amari say Kogi State quick action in setting up the minimum wage implementation committee dey commendable compared to other states.
Amari promise on behalf of the workers to be more committed to their duties and to continue to cooperate with the governor’s initiatives.
