Gombe State Executive Council don approve about N2.8 billion as counterpart funding for donor agencies and development partners wey dey work for the state. The approval happen on Thursday during a meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya at the State Executive Chamber.
The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Alkali, explain to journalists say the funds show the government commitment to development. He mention some of the beneficiaries of the counterpart funding to include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Nigeria for Women project, and the United Nations Population Fund.
Alkali say, “N2,868,400.00 as counterpart funding for donor and development partners that have projects and programmes in the state. This is in the agreement signed between the state government and the donor, development partners. We have so many donor agencies that are undertaking projects and programmes in the state, and every year, we have to fulfil our part of the agreement whereby we pay a counterpart — that is — a contribution to the project they do in the state.”
Some specific approvals include N300 million for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, N500 million for ACReSAL, N500 million for Sustainable Power Supply in Nigeria, and N100 million for the SURWASH programme in Gombe State. Additionally, N200 million was approved for the Nigeria for Women Project.
The state Commissioner for Water Environment and Forest Resources, Mohammed Fawu, also disclose plans to reticulate water supply to the recently completed College of Nursing.
