Abuja, Nigeria — Catastrophe strike for Karu bridge on Wednesday night, as gas explosion from Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck cause serious accident. Di accident happen around 7:14 PM and e involve plenty vehicles, leading to many casualties.
According to the Head of the Forecasting, Response and Mitigation division for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Mark Nyam, di driver of di CNG truck lose control while dem dey cross di bridge, causing di truck to run into other cars and explode. E emphasize say emergency teams from FEMA, Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, and Nigeria Police Force dey on ground for rescue operation.
Nyam explain say some victims don already dey transferred to State House Clinic for treatment as di Asokoro Hospital and National Hospital don fill up. “We dey work hard to ensure we rescue all di victims, and we go get proper medical attention for dem,” e add.
Eyewitness, Tule Gemanen, share im scary experience on social media. “I dey inside one vehicle, only God save me. I see death today. Many people die, and cars burn to ashes. Di tanker driver escape before di explosion, but my car burn completely,” e talk.
Di Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNG) don express sorrow over di incident and promise to investigate to find out wetin cause di explosion. In one statement, dem say, “Our hearts go out to di victims and their families. We go carry out thorough investigation to know di real cause of di incident.”
Initially, some reports talk say a bi-fueled petrol tanker dey involved, but di PCNG urge di public make dem no jump to conclusions until di investigation finish. Dem recognize di possibility of brake system failure as di potential trigger for di explosion.
“We appreciate di quick response of di emergency services, especially FEMA and di police, wey dey work tirelessly to manage di situation and rescue victims,” di statement conclude.
