Baba Siddique, a prominent NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead in Mumbai‘s Bandra East area on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The incident occurred outside his son, Zeeshan Siddique‘s, office near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar.
Siddique, who was 66 years old, was hit by multiple bullets in the chest and abdomen. Despite having Y-level category security, he succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital. The police have identified and detained two individuals, one from Haryana and the other from Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the incident. A third person is still absconding, and the case has been handed over to the Mumbai crime branch.
The murder has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders across parties. Sharad Pawar and other leaders have demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, citing the growing criminal activities in the state. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured that all those guilty will be arrested.
The police investigation has revealed the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is alleged to have orchestrated the attack. This incident comes ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for November, adding to the political tension in the state.
Baba Siddique was a three-time MLA from the Bandra West constituency and had served as a minister in the Congress-NCP government from 2004 to 2008. He was known for his political influence and his connections within the Bollywood industry.
