EFCC Nab 36 Yahoo Boys for Internet Fraud in Anambra

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) don arrest 36 suspects wey dey involved in internet fraud for Anambra State. The arrest happen on October 11, 2024, after dem get actionable intelligence wey link the suspects to online criminal activities.

The suspects were caught at different locations in Onitsha, and preliminary investigations show say dem dey impersonate foreign nationals using social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting victims. Items like eight luxury vehicles, sophisticated brands of mobile phones, and laptops were recovered from the suspects.

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, make the disclosure on Wednesday. He say the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

In addition to the arrests in Anambra, the EFCC also secure the conviction of 24 other internet fraudsters in Kaduna, Kwara, and Edo states. In Benin City, Edo State, 15 internet fraudsters were convicted and sentenced by Justice A. N. Erhabor of the Edo State High Court.

In Kwara State, six persons were convicted for internet fraud offences before Justices Sulaiman Akanbi and Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin. In Kaduna, three individuals were convicted and sentenced by Justices Hawaa Buhari and R.M Aikawa of the Federal High Court for impersonation and cybercrimes.
