Educationists DeMAND Beta Welfare, Training For Teachers

Educationists for Nigeria don dey call for better welfare and training for teachers, as dem celebrate World Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2024. President Bola Tinubu, wey represent by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, talk say his administration dey committed to improving teachers’ welfare and quality of education.

Tinubu say government policies and legislations go ensure availability, accessibility, professional development, motivation, and monitoring and evaluation systems for teachers. He also emphasize say teachers’ perspectives must be included in educational policy and decision-making processes, in line with the 2024 theme ‘Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education’.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) also raise alarm about the serious shortage of teachers in primary schools across the country. According to NUT National President, Audu Amba, some primary schools are barely manned by one or two teachers, leading to learning poverty and a bleak future for pupils. Amba call on federal and state governments to implement welfare packages announced by former President Muhammadu Buhari to boost teachers’ morale.

Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, assure teachers of government’s support towards their empowerment and training in technological skills. He say the Federal Ministry of Education is working hard to improve teacher training, professional development, and working conditions across the country.

Other educationists like former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, commend teachers for their service to humanity. Saraki describe teachers as “the unsung architects of our minds” and urge everyone to honour them for their profound influence.
