Two persons, including a driver and his passenger, lose their lives in a tragic auto crash along the Onipepeye area of the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State on Wednesday.
The incident involved a Mitsubishi Space Wagon car with number plate AAB 255 AE, which had five occupants. According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the vehicle crashed into a stationary Mercedes truck due to a mechanical issue. The driver lost control and collided with the truck from the rear, resulting in the deaths of the driver and a female passenger at the scene.
The other occupants of the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Idera Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, noted that the driver of the truck fled the scene after the accident. Akinbiyi commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid speeding and night travels due to their attendant consequences.
