One Delta State businessman, Mr. Onainor Patrick Ewere, don drag the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, among others, to Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, over the ownership of one Lexus GX 460.
In the writ of summons dated October 4, 2024, Mr. Onainor, through his lawyer, Mrs. Franca Ewere, tell the court say him be the rightful owner of the vehicle with Chassis Number JTJBM7FX6C5045457. Him claim say the auction sale of the vehicle to another person by the Customs and Police be illegal and null and void.
Mr. Onainor explain say him pay all necessary fees, including Customs duties of N700,440, when him clear the vehicle at Tincan Island, Apapa, Lagos State. However, officers of the Police demand additional N2,500,000 before they release the vehicle. While him dey try sort out the issue, the officers take the vehicle away and say dem dey take am to Benin City, Edo State, for detention.
Him report say no retention or seizure notice was given to am before dem confiscate the vehicle. Since 2018, all attempts to locate the vehicle and the Customs officers prove abortive. Him also report the incident to Police offices in Warri, Owerri, and Lagos, but no vehicle match the description of his Lexus GX 460 was found.
