Bureau de Change Operator Sue EFCC N1.2 Billion

A Bureau de Change operator, Suleiman Sani, has taken a significant legal step against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by filing a fundamental rights enforcement suit. The lawsuit seeks damages to the tune of N1.2 billion.

According to reports, Sani alleges that the EFCC has violated his fundamental rights through its actions. The specifics of the allegations include claims of unlawful detention and other forms of mistreatment by the EFCC.

This development comes at a time when the EFCC is already facing scrutiny over its constitutional validity. Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, has recently written to the National Assembly arguing that the EFCC is an unlawful organisation due to its allegedly unconstitutional establishment.

The lawsuit by Sani adds to the growing list of challenges the EFCC is facing, including a pending Supreme Court ruling on a suit by 16 states questioning the EFCC’s right to check state government accounts.
