Enyimba International Football Club of Aba has just secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Katsina United in a match that concluded on Monday morning at the Enyimba stadium in Aba. The game was marked by a dramatic turn of events after the floodlights went out on Sunday, forcing the match to be completed the following day.
This win comes at a crucial time as Enyimba prepares to face stiff competition in the CAF Confederation Cup. The team has been drawn into Group D, where they will compete against Egyptian clubs Zamalek, the reigning champions, and Al Masry, as well as Mozambican team Black Bulls. Enyimba, known as the most successful Nigerian club in CAF competitions, is aiming to become the first Nigerian team to win the CAF Confederation Cup.
Historically, Enyimba has a strong record in CAF tournaments, having won back-to-back Champions League and Super Cup titles between 2003 and 2005. However, their path to the group stage this time was not without challenges, as they had to advance via penalties after drawing 0-0 twice against Etoile Filante from Burkina Faso.
The Confederation Cup group stage matches are scheduled to take place from November 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025. Enyimba will need to perform at their best to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, given the strong competition in their group.
