ASUU Don Suspense Their Strike, Na So E Be For Abuja

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) don finally pause their two-week warning strike, just like that! Na wah! Na Prof. Chris Piwuna, the big man wey be the ASUU president, announce this for one news conference on Wednesday. E talk say dem give Federal Government one month to do better and fulfill some promises wey dem don delay since.

According to Piwuna, this decision follow one emergency meeting wey ASUU National Executive Council (NEC) hold for Abuja. Dem gree say dem go suspend the strike “out of respect for our students, parents, and all the people wey dey try help resolve this matter.” So, as from midnight Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the strike don end.

Dem don give government one month to make sure say dem finalize all dis 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement wey still dey linger like bad smell. Na true, the union no fit solve all their wahala, but Piwuna talk say at least dem no dey where dem start again before the strike.

During the meeting wey happen from October 16 to 18, ASUU meet with the Federal Government team led by Yayale Ahmed to look into the 2009 FGN-ASUU draft agreement again. According to Piwuna, dem even get better conversations with some Senate Committees, plus the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin. Na so dem dey put plenty hope for the promises wey those senators don make.

Piwuna still talk say make Federal Ministry of Education no waste time; dem no fit leave this matter like that. He add say if not for the help of individuals here and there, they for still dey struggle for this level.

As the ASUU president dey shine his eyes, e sabi say dem go keep everything wey happen for government front. The media, NLC, and regular Nigerians wey support them during the strike na im make dis suspension happen. But make we clear am, if government no waka faster within dis one-month window, ASUU no go dull; dem go gather again and start the strike without flexing.

So for students wey don tire for dis strike wahala, na good news dis be. But make we dey watch to see how government go take follow up. Hope say dis one no go be another “we go do am later” story.
