Senate President Godswill Akpabio don debunk reports of impeachment plot against am by some unknown ‘aggrieved Senators’, describing the rumour as ‘mischief’ and ‘fake news’. Akpabio react to this development during Senate plenary on Wednesday afternoon.
Akpabio direct the Senate Committee on Special Duties to investigate the source and promoters of the rumour and report back to the Red Chamber within 24 hours for further action. “We dey here sit down, dey do our work very peacefully, oblivious of the mischief wey dey go on behind us,” Akpabio say.
Online news reports had claimed on Wednesday morning that operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) take over the National Assembly complex amidst speculations of an impeachment move against Akpabio by some unnamed Northern Senators. However, Akpabio say this na fake news and that the chamber dey very stable.
Akpabio also mention say the fake news dey used to drive traffic and earn money from platforms like YouTube. “I hear dem use AI to inject something to turn it around in order to drive traffic. I understand say dem dey pay dem by YouTube if dem get a lot of traffic,” Akpabio explain.
The atmosphere inside the Senate chambers remain calm, devoid of tension or any expression of anger by senators. Contrary to reports of heavy security presence, no unusual deployment of DSS operatives was observed at the National Assembly premises.
