Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State don announce new minimum wage of N73,000 for state workers, but di Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) no dey happy with di decision.
Aiyedatiwa make di announcement on Saturday during his campaign kick-off ahead of di November 16 governorship election. He say Ondo State go pay N73,000, which be more than di federal government approved N70,000 minimum wage. However, PDP describe di gesture as a Greek gift, saying it be a desperate attempt to curry favour with workers and electorate.
PDP Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ayo Fadaka, talk say di governor’s decision be mere pretence to make him look like a workers’ friendly governor. Fadaka say if Aiyedatiwa truly care about di welfare of his people, he would have increased di salaries long time ago and addressed di root causes of Ondo State’s challenges like poverty, unemployment, and decay of essential services.
Di PDP also accuse Aiyedatiwa’s administration of neglect, indifference, and lack of empathy for di common man. Dey say di wage increase be a political carrot to manipulate and hoodwink di electorate for his selfish political survival.
Reacting to di allegations, Senior Special Assistant to di governor on Strategic Communications, Allen Sowore, say di PDP’s claims be baseless. Sowore argue say di minimum wage be a law dat all governors must implement, and Aiyedatiwa’s addition of N3,000 be commendable. He also say di Ondo State government had already set up a committee to work out consequential adjustments for workers, and di process had been ongoing for some time.
