Vaccines Safe, Effective – WHO

Dr Walter Mulombo, wey be de World Health Organisation’s Country Representative to Nigeria, don talk say vaccines dey safe and effective. Dis statement come at a time when many people still dey doubt de safety and effectiveness of vaccines.

According to Dr Mulombo, de evidence from various studies and real-world data show that vaccines save lives and prevent serious illnesses. For example, de recent study on de respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine show say it dey 80% effective in protecting against hospitalizations and deaths among older Americans during de 2023-2024 RSV season.

WHO also emphasize say COVID-19 vaccines, despite some misinformation, are safe and effective. De American Cancer Society and de National Cancer Institute don make it clear say there is no evidence to support de claim that COVID-19 vaccines cause cancer or make it come back in patients who are in remission.

Dr Mulombo urge Nigerians to trust de science behind vaccines and to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their communities from preventable diseases.
